Appreciating Alhambra

May 14, 2011
It may be a challenging walk up the hill to Alhambra but the sight is well worth the journey. It is quite a scenic walk from the city center through a green park that has small streams flowing down along the wooded walkway. It is a hint of the magnificent view at the plateau.

The Alhambra enters to Nasrid Palace which must be enjoyed according to your ticket’s time. It is only a half hour slot allowed to view the beautiful Alhambra crown jewel. The palace itself is too breathtakingly beautiful to describe its full majesty in words. Views of the Granada and villa in spain are absolutely impressive. The ornate decorations add on to the majestic presentation although you can identify its natural beauty and the building’s symmetry with elaborately decorated rooms that lead to courtyards of pools and lush greens.

Another enchanting palace is the Palace of Charles V, which came about after the Christians conquered Alhambra. The King of Spain at that time was also the Holy Roman Emperor who ordered restoration work on the palace to its current day grandeur. The round shaped palace building is set inside a square compound to give a most unique structure. It certainly stood out in any property crowd.

The Alhambra also offers many ramparts and towers like the Alcazaba. This ancient citadel houses the Torre de la Vela which gives you a great view of the city if you are gamed to climb its high stairs. You will also be taken aback with the spectacular views of snow-capped Sierra Nevada. There are many other great sights to explore leisurely at the Alhambra like Iglesia de Santa María which is quite mysterious from its unassuming structure and design. A map would be most helpful in assisting you explore Alhambra inch by inch.

But that is not all of Alhambra; the towers and fortresses may be in the city center but the outskirts will showcase the well kept summer palace and gardens. These can be found across a small narrow valley with scenic grounds filled with flower beds and orange trees. The symmetric pools and fountains with trimmed hedges welcome you to the palace.

This is the Generalife scenic grounds which are similar to Nasrid palace in the winter. But here, life seems to be more laidback in the midst of nature. You hear the bubbling fountains and the green trees gently swaying in the wind.  You will also be impressed with the views offered by Alcabaza and the palace fortress at the same time.
